Los Angeles./ 52

A nice trip to LA with Katie for the big 52 (even though I froze my age at 38.) Runyon Canyon hike and smoothies after.
Musso and Franks for birthday dinner - they have about 140 items on the menu. If I won the big lottery I would have lunch there every day until I finished the menu (two different items each day - I would save the grilled kidneys for a strong mental day at about the halfway point. But the marinated herring is calling my name. Feb 5th: Uber to Du-pars but the line was so long (our timing was off and we did not have the usual John and Katie early arrival plan.) Walked to a nice Italian pasta / pizza place instead. Dinner at Night & Market on Sunset after a quick stop at The Rainbow Bar which did live up to its reputation of heavy metal tomfoolery even though we were inside for nary 30 minutes. Would definitely return to both.
Feb 6th: Avis guy (the owner) turned up late to rent us a car but we had a lovely chat about owning a business and other current events. We ended up with a giant white Cadillac CTS6 SUV for a drive to Malibu. We had breakfast at Paradise Cove (Paddlers Special eggs over hard.) We put the shades down a bit as our waterside table was getting blasted with sun (a good problem to have.) We hiked into Point Dume State Park. The parking lot was closed - maybe from recent heavy rains? But we didn’t have any trouble finding street parking though it was pretty full when we left later. We did the waterside trail up into the hills. A rabbit hoped across our path and we saw two Osprey and many Pelicans soaring on the wind. I tried to take some pics for Mom but probably wasn’t close enough. It was really lovely with wildflowers and yellow blooming Giant Coreopsis (thank you “Picture This” app.)
Lunch at Geoffrey’s where pods of dolphins were splashing in the water below. We drove up PCH toward Neptune’s Net for a small snack stopping at two surf shops on the way just to see what all they had going on. Had some fried clams at NN before coming all the way back down PCH during sunset. The ocean off to our right was glowing pink from the sunset and the colors were magical.
Snarled up in LA traffic for a good hour getting back to the hotel (19 miles / 49 minutes as per the in car navigation until it crashed totally [SXD memory card has been removed] and it was closer to 1h10m.
